I share a non-rent stabilized apartment with two room-mates in NYC. Our lease is up at the end of June. We
Under our current lease our landlord has harrassed and our guests regarding guests in the apartment. They try to say that according to the lease we have to pay an increase of $100 for additional "occupants." In april they actually tried to charge us $50 dollars when a guest stayed for a week. We refused to pay.
They offered us a new lease with a rent increase of $200 and another clause about having additional "occupants." Yesterday we challenged this clause, saying that we have the right to have guests and they can't charge us for it. Landlord grabs the proposed leases, crumples them up and says we will get a new lease with an increase of $400, a %25 increase.
What are our rights or options in this situation? Thanks for the help.
