If its thick and furry and covering a vent above the stove, then it's not mold. Sounds like it is just ordinary dirt and grime with a good deal of grease from cooking thrown in. Look under your refrigerator, which also has an air intake vent, you'll probably see something very similar.

To get rid of it, just vacuum.
