I rent an apartment in one of those brownstone buildings in Brooklyn with 4 rental units (one occupied by the LL's sister). Thanks for responding.

: Rent payment: Sure, LL can demand rent in cash, MO or check. LL must, MUST give you a written receipt upon request, especially when you pay in cash, at the time you pay, on the spot, right then and there. So, before you hand over your cash, ask him if he has a receipt with him (on his person) to give to you for your cash.
