If the landlord agrees to add your roommate to the lease, your rent would be increased by the vacancy lease rate -- a minimum of 20% for a two-year lease.

: And therein lies the kicker: Even if you wanted to add your roommates name to the lease, the landlord doesn't have to, and if he does agree to add the roommates name to the lease, your rent will be increased by the renewal rate.
