Air conditioner in apartment.

Posted by Tom Allen on May 22, 2001 at 09:15:40:

I recently received a notice from my landlord (NYC) that I had installed an air conditioner w/o permission in my bedroom, and that I would have to move it to my living room or face legal action. It says on a rider to my lease, that any air conditioners must be installed in the room that has a dedicated outlet - which happens to be the living room. The thing is - I want the air conditioner in my bedroom, not the living room. Can anyone give me some advice on this? What are my legal rights? Can I be evicted? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
