By the way, I live in a rent-stabilized apartment in Manhattan.
: Recently I received notice that my building has filed for a Major Capital Improvement rent increase - they claim that they rewired the building, repaired the walls, and worked on the electrical system.
: I don't believe that they did everything they said they did - a couple of days they turned off the electricity, but they never touched my walls, nor installed any new electrical sockets.
: Even if they did do work to our wires, this wouldn't increase the value of my apartment? (They are so bad at fixing things already and they always do the bare minimum). The age of the wires they replaced were 50 years old - shouldn't it be their job to maintain stuff like electricity? Isn't access to electricity something that I pay for already in my rent?
: Please let me know if this is something I can fight, as well as how I should proceed.
