Thanks for the great site and for Hawk's 4/99 treatise on the subject of Overcharges. Just discovered that I'm in an illegal sublet in NYC and she's overcharging me. Moving out 5/30.

One Question: The amount of the rent overcharge, before triple damages and excluding the o/c in the security deposit, is around $3000. Can't I sue her in Small Claims court? Do I really really have to take it to Supreme court?
