That clause in your lease is worthless. I don't know why landlords continue to use such clauses since it provides no protection and it tends to piss off judges. A tenant cannot sign away his/her rights under the law. You always have the right to sue.

But why don't you just ask them what their objection is. They may have a valid objection and you may be able to work it out. If there is no valid issue and there is no provision in the lease/rental agreement prohibiting it, you can continue, until the lease/rental agreement is renewed/changed.
