Well, it may really be exempt then.

But two things.

I believe the lease must have the exact date the tax exemption expires. (When you said approximate date, I'm not sure if you meant the date wasn't in the lease or it was approximately one year from now.)

You should still ask DHCR for a rent history, to see if everything was properly registered and to see if you were overcharged within the last four years.

Unfortunately, you have to be a little bit careful about rocking the boat, since you may be in a position where the landlord may be able to jack up the rent or refuse to renew leases after stabilization ends. But you should still check out these things to make sure it's all on the up and up.

: Yes, our lease gives a J51 notice regarding the end of rent stabilization, stating that the tax abatements will end on a approximate date about one year hence. Should I still check with DHCR? Thanks.
