Thanks a lot. I think you are right . When I leased the apartment a year back there were some water marks on the walls (noted in the Move in check sheet).

: I don't think its a problem with the quality of carpet, but it does sound like moisture. It may not be attributable to anything you did. Maybe there is a slow leak somewhere trickling into that area. I have seen vinyl flooring buckling only to find that a roof leak believe it or not was trickling between the walls and working way into the opposite corner and soaking into the subfloor. What is your Landlord like? Is he honest? If not, it might cost you less in the long run to have a carpet person come out and assess the problem so that if it does come to a court case, you will have an expert opinion to back you up.
: The wall stain: try TSP (trisodiumphosphate) in some water and see if that will cut the grease, but be careful - its powerful stuff (buy at Home Depot, Kmart, Walmart around paint department.)
