I have three months left on my lease and I intend to finish it out. Meanwhile, I have applied for a new apt. in another city for two months from now (so I'll overlap one month). I haven't given my notice to my current landlord, since I want to be sure I get the new place first. However, my new potential landlord says the old one won't return his calls. Can a landlord refuse to respond to another landlord's request for tenancy verification? I've always paid my rent on time and have never had a complaint against me, but I get the feeling that my landlord doesn't like making any statements of a binding nature.
