the same thing is happening to me...my landlord told me that he will enter my apt. at his convenience whether i am home or not...well, i spoke to a lawyer (i live in ny) & he said absolutely no, he cannot just walk in whenever he pleases, unless it is an emergency (flood, fire...), & if he is doing an inspection, he HAS TO tell you what he is doing. the other case when a ll can enter is to show potential buyers and even then the ll can only enter at reasonable times. reasonable, meaning you cannot deny him access to your apt & if you do, then he might be able to enter...but i have to double check on that. go online and check you state landlord-tenant laws.

: I posted this at the end of March 2001. Several people responded raising additional issues, but before anyone could respond or I could even read the responses the post was put in the archives. Please repost. Please also see earlier posts which are in the archives for March 2001

: I am being harassed by my landlord in Massachusetts. They have repeatedly threated to break
: into my apartment for so called "inspections." They send a notice about a day or 2 earlier
: declaring that they will be coming in at some unstated time starting early in the morning to late
: afternoon. Some times they do not even come when they threaten but leave me sitting in the
: apartment waiting for them all day Some times they claim that they will be entering on some
: unknown date during a given week. They claim they can break into my apartment at any time
: they want as much as they want for "inspections" even when I am not dressed or asleep. Does
: anyone think this is legal? What can I do to stop this.
