You may also want to think about getting a guarantor if you've never lived in Manhattan before. Some of these landlords want you to have some kind of co-signor (guarantor) for your lease. I'm not sure what the annual income is required for the guarantor, but it's something ridiculous. I didn't have a guarantor when I moved here and I ended up having to pay a security deposit which alone equalled 4 months of rent!
