Usually, when the lease is renewed and the rent goes up, in your case, $50, then the LL is right to ask to put that $100 in the deposit for you ($50 for each month's security). The security has to match what you're paying.

: I have agreed to renew my apartment lease for another year at a rent increase by $50. My landlord has sent me a renewal form demanding that I pay an additional $100 as 2 months security. I had paid him 2 months rent as security last year when I moved in. Are landlords supposed to demand additional security as rent goes up?
