Annexed Petition

Posted by c.a on March 27, 2001 at 19:40:26:

I am an illegal subletter or licensee living in a City Building. The Tenant's Association along with the city is filing suit against the lease holder, (who hasn't lived in the building for over three years) for rent arrears of one year. I have been paying him rent regularly. I have to answer in court tomorrow orally. Some prior discussion with the landlord's attorney reveals that the attorney is willing to offer me some time (up to a year) to stay. I 'm just curious what kind of defense I must answer tomorrow, orally and set a date. I wamnt to come across as just and neutral. My intentions were good with the landlord. I did not know the leaseholder was not paying the rent...
