See the discussion Can my roommate evict me? earlier in March:

:
: I know of a person who may become homeless because of the new roommate law. She's been living in the same apartment for 30 years. She raised her children there as a widowed mother and considered this place her home. A few years back she lost her job and at that time took on a roommate. Since then she’s had an odd job here and there but last year her health took a turn for the worse and has been unable to work since then.

: The roommate pays most of the rent (not all!) for the privilege of a room and a private bathroom in a luxury building. It's a steal considering what they are paying and the location. It's an amiable situation which neither party minds.

: Now with the new law, they may both be out of a home since the leaseholder will not be able to pay 1/2 of the rent

: She asked me what her options are. I don't know.

: What is she to do?!?!?
