bathtub damage!!!

Posted by tk on March 22, 2001 at 19:11:12:

I have been living in the apartment for more than 3 years, and moved out at the end of January, 2001. I gave the management of the apartment one month notice (I was on month to month rent) at the end of December, 2000.

After I moved out, the management of the apartment sent me a letter Yesterday claim the bathtub was damaged, and want me to pay for it (965.0 us$). I have been using the bathtub for shower for more than 3 years, no problems at all, just the knob feel loose, and some rust around the knob area. Before I leave, I ask them to come with me to walk through the apartment. I was told that if I think everything is OK, I just have to drop the key before leaving. That is exactly what I did.

What should I do now? Can the landlord blame me for any damages after I leave? Maybe the landlord damaged the bathtub after I leave, but want me to pay for it, but how I can prove that?

I never have any problems with landlord before.

Many thanks in advance.

Regards

TK
