Hi -- I have a rent-stabilized apartment in Manhattan and am considering terminating early. I couldn't find any specific provisions in my lease for an early termination (except for an illegal one, i.e. default). But, when I spoke to my landlord's office about this, they said it's possible, but that they would need two months' notice, and that they would keep the security deposit.

Does anyone have any advice about what my rights as a tenant are in this situation (especially since there isn't anything specific in my lease about this)? Any suggestions about resources for information, or things to watch out for in early terminations, would be greatly appreciated!
