I am so sorry that you have been treated so unfairly by an unscrupulous LL. You are better off not renting from her if this is how she operates. Lord only knows what she would do to you down the road. The fact of the matter is that in the absence of a written guarantee that the house was yours, you have no recourse.

Next time: Place a deposit and get a signed receipt indicating that it is yours if accepted.
