How long can a land lord keep a security deposit? My x-land lord is holding on to my security deposit for damage done to a stained glass window. We agreed that after she got a quotes for the work she would return the balance if one existed. It is going on two years now and she hasn't been able to find someone that she is comfortable to do the work. I realize that fixing stained glass is delicate work but enough is enough. The Apartment is in New York City.
