Do have grounds for filing suit against my landlord?

Posted by senrik on February 12, 2001 at 22:11:47:

My ex-landlord gave us our renewal lease just two weeks to our first lease expiration. We wrote him and contacted him several times to protest this as he had previously led us to believe that we could stay after our lease on a month-to-month basis. He played scarce however. We then moved out of the apartment as we were afraid of being evicted. We also have several issues with the first lease (e.g illegal conditions inserted). By the way this is a rent stabilized apt. Aside from getting our security deposit back can anyone tell us if we have any grounds for filing a suit against him?
