:) Yes, they do seem extinct right? Well in California (land of frivilous lawsuits I can find a lawyer who will not charge me anything unless the case is won and then they get 1/3.

I spoke to a lawyer and he wants $1200 for these proceedings, and $500 to do proceedings for subletting the same apartment, he says that he should be able to get around $15000 to $20000 in damages. I know that the amount is much larger than what I am putting in, but I wanted to find out if there was someone else that I can compare prices.

: A good inexpensive lawyer in Manhattan. I thought those were extinct!!! Forbidden by law. etc.

: Lockouts are illegal. Period. Get a copy of your police report. Get photographs of screw holes in door jambs. Witness statements. Copies of your rent checks that prove rent payment is current. I don't even think you need an attorney for this one. Seems pretty cut and dry. If you do get an attorney, make sure they are familiar and very experienced with landlord / tenant issues. A divorce lawyer for example would not serve your best interest. I think you have the makings of a great case here.
