In Reply to: Sales Tax on Rooms in NYC posted by Karen on January 21, 2001 at 19:33:02:

The tax refers to a bed and breakfast, an inn-type arrangement in which visitors pay by the night and are presumably served a morning meal, not a roomate situation.

: Yesterday, the rent on a room w/bath (fridge, no kitchen) was quoted as "$xxxx/month plus 8.25% Sales Tax". This room is part of an apartment, which may be rented or owned, I did not ask.

: I tried to research this with not much luck. I did find this State memo which states that a B&B must pay Slaes Tax. But a room in someone's apartment, rented by the month or by the year?

: Please read this memo: does it say you must charge your roommate/lodger Sales Tax?

: (PS: your search thing is broken: "The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request")
