Happy New Year all Tenant.Netters. Here is my first post for 2001. My fiance and I had a case where we were awarded succession rights (grandmother fiance lived with passed) to an apartment. Now, the court ordered the hazardous conditions to be corrected within a certain time. They corrected 2 out of 7 hazardous conditions.
According to the papers the city inspector filed with the court, our repairs were supposed to be done within 90 days. It has been 4 months now. They are fixing up other apartments so they can jack the rent up. However, they are dragging their feet with our situation. Even the landlord's workers are saying how he is trying to force people out (off the record). Also, he told us that the landlord doesn't listen to the courts.
Fines are building against him. At this point, what can we do? Should we go back to our lawyer? I know we can go back to court to restore it to the calendar but if he doesn't respond to what the courts say, then what can we do? It seems as if we are getting sick from the conditions in the apartment.
The landlord has a building manager who also breaks appointments with us to continue repairs and constantly gives us the runaround (besides 2 completed repairs). Please help!
