I agree. I was in such a situation in Conn., years ago, and I found that the law was on my side--something in the statutes about the landlord not permitting a hazardous condition on the premises. I pushed the point and it poisoned relations between us, which I regret in retrospect.

I dont know what the law is in NY and, besides, the main thing is to not get into big fights with the landlord over relatively unimportant issues.

: Discuss it with your landlord. You are the leasee and under no obligation to do home repairs, mowing, snow removal, etc. But for convenence sake clean your area... and discuss the rest.

: Check your lease

: Good luck

: : Hi:
: : I live in the second floor of a house, where the landlord lives (She lives on the first floor). Is an old house from 1950. I have a written lease for 18 months. My rent includes all utilities. USD 1650/ month in Briarcliff Manor, NY.
: : My question is:
: : There is a shared walkway to get to her door at the first floor and the stairs to the second floor where I live. I cleaned the snow for the stairs that access the second floor (Stairs goes only to my apartment). Do I have to help clean the walkway that is shared for her and me?
: : Thank you for your help.
