Landlord refuses to pay for repairs

Posted by Jason on December 19, 2000 at 15:15:08:

Our landlord refuses to reimburse the cost of repairs paid by us as tenants. The landlord lives in Malaysia and is unable to obtain repair service in an emergency, therefore we make the calls. On a Sunday night, we were forced to call an electrician who charged us $300. The landlord feels the cost is too much, and therefore will not pay. Further, he wants to void the lease. I haven't found anything that would exempt him from paying for the reasonable cost of repairs. Next step?
