In Reply to: HOW DO I APPLY FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING IN NEW YORK CITY??? posted by Ana on December 18, 2000 at 06:47:30:

Most of them charge ridiculous rents, alas.
You might want to look into the brand apartment buildings on the river over in New Jersey. A friend of mine has a great apt., a 2BR he rented for a bit over $2000 a month. You take the ferry from 38th Street and the apts. are a short walk to the north.
There's always Stuyvestant Town/ Peter Cooper Village on the East Side, but the waits are long. You can always apply there, but people wait for years to get an apartment.

: I live in brooklyn, my sons go to school in Manhattan. I see these new huge buildings going up all the time in the city (where I work) and I heard that each building has to have a few affordable housing units. How do I apply?? Is there a website that lists these buildings?? Can someone please help me find this info? Thank you.
