stopping snoopy landlord, illegal charges

Posted by Chris on December 13, 2000 at 14:01:34:

I live in new york city and my landlord lives in the building. I have heard from the other tenants that he can be very sexually forward toward female friends and visitors of tenants, and snoops in peoples apartments quite frequently..reading their personal papers, moving things around, generally acting as if it is HIS place.

I have bought a lock that i do not plan on giving him keys to. If he should complain, that i am keeping him out, does he have legal recourse? How do i stop him from snooping. I so far have not had problems, but i did see he has moved some things in my apartment around and i am worried.

He also does not keep the security deposit in a separate interest bearing account. I just signed the lease and am very worried. If necessary can i get out of a lease if he should start harassing me?
