guests

I live in a 2 family home and my landlord lives below my apartment. I rent month to month. I would like to invite a very good friend of mine over for dinner some night but this friend is the former husband of my landlord's grand daughter. Does my landlord have any legal right to prevent this person from coming onto his property without stepping all over my right to have guests in my apartment? Thanks for any info you can offer.
