banging heat pipes

Posted by Jean on November 20, 2000 at 10:04:57:

I rent a studio in midtown Manhattan. Ever since the building heat was turned on a month ago, I have been living with incessant banging of heat pipes. I have informed the super and the landlord's office. The super has tried to fix it twice but problem is beyond his capabilities. The landlord's office is very short with me and I have not been able to speak to the landlord about it directly, even though he has known about the problem for two weeks.

There is nothing else wrong with my apartment. I used to like living here, but with the lack of sleep and the incessant noise, it has become a nightmare. The thing bangs for 45 minutes, finally begins to subside until it hits silence for about 15 minutes and then starts all over again.

Is there anything I can do?
