Your superintendent is absolutely right to come into the apartment along with a plumber or other repairman. In fact, I'd be concerned if she didn't. You want someone trustworthy (at least someone known to you) to be directly supervising any outside repairman who is working in your apartment.

While I understand its not fun to be awoken by a repairman, you should realize that plumbers will arrive when its convenient for THEM, not your super. Most important is that you got your shower repaired promptly.

I think you're roommate is right on this one and I'd avoid further confrontations with the super. Given that you have some issues with the super you should also think hard about whether you really want to continue renting there -- there's lots of other places available.
