Regarding Richard putting in a floating floor...

Richard,
Let's say the landlord does work in the bathroom above you, the plumber makes a vital mistake and a pipe burst causing substantial flooding in your apartment. As a result your very expensive flooring (I would imagine at least 5.00 a square foot...right?) is destroyed, swells up and never fits the same. Would you sue the landlord for damages to a floor covering that he never approved of ? Or are you willing to take the risk?
