I've lived in the same apartment in Suffolk County, NY (Long Island) for 2 1/2 years. I paid 1 month's rent and 1 month's security, which was increased every time the rent increased. The property was sold to the current LL and the deposits transferred. My lease was also transferred, although it expired March, 2000. I notified the LL on September 15th that I had lost my job and would be moving out in 1 month. I moved out on October 17th.

My LL refuses to give me the remainder of the last month's rent despite the fact that I was only there for 17 days and gave him more than a month's notice. Am I entitled to the remainder or am I screwed because I moved out in the middle of the month (that's his reasoning). Keep in mind that I have no lease.
