the landlord has no rights to tell you to keep your windows closed all day and night. If you want to air out your apt even if it's 40 below zero you can do it. If you are cooking and the odors are offensive to you such as when cooking fish, then open your window and air out the apt. I wouldn't leave the windows open all day because your apt would get pretty cold but if you like a cold apt then open your windows and leave them open all day. No landlord has the right to tell you how to live with respect to an open window. However, if it was a " substantial condition " of the lease and it was clearly indicated in there that you would be charged $25 per day for an open window, then you could be charged because you knew about the condition prior to moving in but if it was told after you signed then you are under NO obligation to do so. Will he charge you for an open window that's open 5 minutes the same as 5 hours ?

DO NOT LIVE IN FEAR !!! STAND UP FOR YOUR RIGHTS !!! DO NOT BECOME THE LANDLORD'S WHIPPPING POST !!!
