problem with an apartment that I have not moved into yet....

Posted by miu on October 27, 2000 at 13:52:10:

I have lived in this fort greene apartment for 1 1/2 years before my landlord
sold the apartment in order to buy another building. At the time
my landlord offered the tenants of the building he just sold the
opportunity to move into his new building. I said yes for the
reason of a bigger apartment in a much nicer neighborhood.
Months went by and finally he got the building. There were a number of
repairs that need to performed before moving into the new building.
In the meantime he asked for the the deposit and first month rent.
Fine and no problem so far.

The dilema is in the period that I signed the lease and transfered money,
he has sold the building before my moving into the building. Which
generally there is no problem, the buyer assumes the current
tenants and goes on. but since the building was purchased empty
and is in the process of being made livable there are no tenants
living there at the moment. I was in formed that the buyer wants
purchase the building empty.

So my question are:

Where does this put me?
When should I call the lawyer?
Could anyone refer me to a good lawyer?

any advice would be greatly appreciated.
