You are already starting off on the right foot. By asking if they are registered and attempting to find that out is a very wise move. Unfortunately, I didn't do that a year ago and I lost $150 to a place who called themselves "New York No Fee".

Well, they had gotten my fee and closed their business. I called the Village Voice newspaper regarding this. The paper wasn't aware of these places putting false ads in their paper. I can guarantee you that if you were to pick up a current edition of the Village Voice, you would see a disclaimer about these places as well as information about how they are supposed to do their business (legally!).
