If you call the local FD and ask an inspector about what the local codes say, he'll probably be happy to tell you.

: I live in Rochester, NY. Our management is threatening to contact the fire department regarding the storage of charcoal and gas grills on patios and balaconies. Our building is a 30-unit, brick-faced, concrete slab structure. They claim that we are in violation of a "national fire code" that prohibits even the storage, let alone use of such grills. We have already called their bluff on the local ordinances for the propane tanks. I use a charcoal grill with a starter chimmney and no lighter fluid. Does anyone have a clue on this "national fire code?" Thanks!
