MCI INCREASE- How can I stop it!

Posted by moma on October 03, 2000 at 21:07:25:

I really, really, really need help! This is my third time posting a message about MCI improvements.

What defines a room in an apartment? I have a hallway which is my kitchen (no window), I have a small living room with window, a bathroom with no window, a bedroom with window. So how many rooms do I have? The landlord says three. I say two (bedroom and living room). What is the legal definition?
How can I fight these increases--- there is no super in the building, I received a $5,000 rent abatement in housing court because of violations (which have all been fixed except for the super), I am currently questioning the amount that my rent was increased from the last rent stabilized apartment (or is it rent controlled-- I can never remember, I signed my lease in '98)(my aparment went for $345 to $995)

I appreciate any help that I can get or any referrals. Thanks!
