rent increases

Posted by Farah on September 30, 2000 at 23:10:19:

I live in an apartment in Manhattan, with a written lease. The building is relatively new (within the last 30 years or renovated within that time). The building has about 150 units. The lease isn't rent controlled or rent stabilized. I am renewing my lease for the first time and the landlord is requesting 15% more than the original lease requested. I was wondering what the average increase in a one year lease was, if one lives in an apartment with no form of rent control or stabilization. What should I realistically expect the landlord to live with?

Thanks,

Farah
