My brother and his roomate (Paul) signed a lease 6 years ago. 4 years ago they both moved out and I moved in with a roommate. They sign the lease and in exchange we pay Paul money every month. Now the lease is up for renewal and Paul wants to take my brothers name off the lease and I suspect take the apartment back.

Do I have any rights? Can he take my brothers name off the lease without his consent?

I'm not sure how old the building is, I suspect it was built in the 60's-70's, maybe earlier. I'm pretty sure it's rent stabalized, but I'm not sure. It's in Manhattan. It's not a co-op or condo. I believe it has 60 apartments or so.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
