I don't know what you mean by an "illegal lease." What kind of lease did you sign? Or did you not sign one? There is a big problem here, in that it sounds like the landlord is messing with you (and the other tenants) and might want all the tenants to vacate their units. I would guess that the landlord's daughter wanted to get your money order receipts so that the landlord could accuse you of not paying rent, and you would have no evidence of your payments. Without receipts or evidence of payment, he could sue you for backpayment of rent, or try to get you evicted by saying you haven't paid. Sorry to sound so bleak, but either you should get a really good lawyer or you should start looking for a new place to live, or both.
