Renting Procedures...

Posted by Tenant in Astoria on September 18, 2000 at 13:02:31:

Hi. I live in Astoria, Queens.

Recently, I have an incident with my landlord. As usual, last month I send a money order to pay as payment of the rent.
This money order was missed in the post office. I learned it when the landlord called and asked me for the payment.
I investigated in the post office and cashier. I was able to solve this problem and the payment was made. Day later,
I received a letter from the landlord expressing that for every week that the rent payment is delay, we will
charge an extra $10.00. I have not replay to him because I would like to know if this procedure is legal.
Beside, this was an incident due to third party and not to my williness to pay the rent on time.
Please advice as soon as possible.

Thanks in advance to all of you who will replay this message and your considerate help.
