To those asking questions: Experienced tenants and attorneys frequenting this message board may be willing to help with their knowledge. In asking questions, please provide the following: your city/location, if you are rent stabilized/controlled, coop/condo or under any form of regulation or subsidy, lease status, units in building and when it was built.
: My land lord promised to renew my lease in the begining of August and still has not done so. All of a sudden I am getting a 5 day notice in mid August saying that I have people over the age of 18 living in my apartment and Beds are illegal to be set up in the basement. I called her and told her I would put the bed up and assured her that no one was living in my apartment with the exception of my 2 yr old daughter. Now then she sent me a 14 day notice saying that I am in violation of my lease by allowing someone to reside with me. Can she evict me with out going to court? I also did not pay this months rent and wrote a letter to her supervisor stating what has happened and why I have not yet paid rent. What can I do about them not renewing my lease, she promised to mail me a copy in the mail and still has not done so?
