Power outages, no super (NYC)

Posted by Peter on August 09, 2000 at 08:09:18:

hi . i live in an old building on the lower east side, and my power tends to go out frequently. when this happens (generally after 5), I'm told my only option is to call the super (who doesn't live in the building), who will go downstairs into the basement through a locked door to flip the circuit breaker. (the landlord has refused to give me a key to the basement)

generally this doesn't get resolved for at least 12-16 hours. it's enough time for some food to go bad, especially during the summers, and I'm stuck in the dark.

is there any course of action I can take to remedy this? (or at least get the key to the basement?)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
