If you are moving, it is your responsibility to contact all utilities, etc. and let them know you are moving out so they can shut the utility off when you move and you won't be stuck paying.

I disagree with Rich. It's YOUR responsibility to have it shut off. If you did not do that, you're responsible to pay the bill.

It's not Con Ed's fault that you were irresponsible. They didn't know who was or was not living there and that is because they were not notified.

: Well it depends.....was the place totally vacant? then yes....

: Was the landlord working on the place, repairing stuff....then NO he should have had it changed to his name, after you vacated

: Did he rent it......on July 1st...well the new tenants got free electricity...and you have to take them to small claims court.
