Is a months' notice OK?

Posted by New to NY on August 23, 2000 at 17:01:09:

I just moved into a rent-stabilized apt in Midtown NYC on an oral agreement with my landlady to stay 5-6 months. Paid one month's rent and one month in deposit. Just realized that my landlady is very difficult to live with, and intrudes on my privacy. Among other things, I'm banned from closing my bedroom door when I go out, and she threw out my bath products while I was at work, because she was "allergic" to them. I want to move out WITH my deposit. Is it OK to give her a months' notice?

We have no written contract, but I made her sign a receipt for the deposit. Please help!
