Roommate asked to leave--what rights?

Posted by Ava on June 21, 2000 at 13:56:50:

I have been living in my apartment for a while--it is a three bedroom. I have been on the lease the whole time. Earlier this year, one of my roommates moved out and was replaced by a friend of a friend--big mistake--he has proved to be both dishonest and irresponsible. He has been unbearable to live with and I gave him 30 days notice early this month. He refused to leave and since then has stopped speaking to me and avoiding the apartment. He does not have a written sublease agreement. My other roommate is also on the lease but he is ambivalent about this guy. What are my legal rights? How can I make sure he leaves? It doesn't seem like he is even looking for a new place.
