RSL, Roommate and Lease

Posted by Stephanie on June 15, 2000 at 15:33:32:

I have been living in a rent stabilized apartment in Brooklyn since September of 99.
I am not on the lease but the lanlord has been accepting checks of mine directly since Oct.99, when I started paying him directly.
He endorses the checks "on behalf of _______" with my roommate's name. I have saved all the cancelled checks.
If my roommate leaves, will I be able to stay in the apt. without LL raising rent, and can he raise the rent if I ask to be put on the lease now?
(Roommate says I can't be put on becuase he raises the rent if roommate adds a name to the lease.)
We renewed the lease for June 2000-2001.
I have met the LL so he knows that I am living there.
