: Can the landlord add any type of surcharge when I sublet my apartment for the rent I pay? I seem to remember having heard something about his right to do so, with the additional amount going directly to him. Can the landlord charge anything over and above my rent and, if so, how much?
.
Mark's answer is for NY state rent stabilized rents, maybe even for rent controlled, but there is no law for market rents, is there? HUD, Mitchell-Lama, NYCHA, etc. probably have their own rules too. And who knows what law applies to this tenant in an unnamed city....
type 'sublet' into the little white search box at the top of this page
: A second question: when you sublet, do the sublessee's checks go to you or to the landlord?
You are still responsible for the rent: subtenants pays you, you pay landlord.
