Can Landlord Add to Sublet Rent?

Posted by Mitch Berman on May 25, 2000 at 01:58:08:

Can the landlord add any type of surcharge when I sublet my apartment for the rent I pay? I seem to remember having heard something about his right to do so, with the additional amount going directly to him. Can the landlord charge anything over and above my rent and, if so, how much?

A second question: when you sublet, do the sublessee's checks go to you or to the landlord?

Thanks for your help.
